Famous U.S. Influencer Sam Shin Plans Implant Removal After Suffering 15 Complications from Breast Augmentation Surgery Sam Shin, a well-known American influencer aged 21, has attracted attention by revealing that she plans to remove her breast implants after experiencing as many as fifteen different side effects following her breast augmentation surgery. According to People magazine on the 24th (local time), Shin expressed regret over her breast surgery through Instagram on the 23rd. With over 200,000 followers on Instagram, Shin is also famous as the daughter of Hollywood actors Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards. She posted, “I have experienced various abnormal symptoms for two years after the surgery,” adding, “I recently realized these were caused by the breast implants and plan to have them removed.” Shin also shared, “Although I am afraid of going back to my pre-surgery body shape, I believe this is necessary for my health.” Regarding the side effects she personally experienced, Shin said, “I developed allergic reactions to almost all foods, suffered hair loss, brain fog, and memory decline.” She also confessed to having rashes, joint pain, chronic fatigue, and a total of fifteen different side effects. Shin explained, “These symptoms appeared all at once every day, making me extremely tired.” The breast augmentation procedure Shin underwent involved silicone implants. Dr. Insoo Kirk of ONUL Plastic Surgery explained, “Some patients opt to use their own fat instead of implants, but the results are less predictable. The vast majority choose silicone implants.” The main concern is that complications from breast augmentation are primarily caused by silicone implants. Silicone can trigger an autoimmune response, where the body’s immune cells attack its own tissues. A study conducted at Amsterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands found that among 86 women who received silicone breast implants, 82 experienced symptoms such as fatigue, fever, headaches, skin redness, and hemoptysis (coughing up blood), all linked to autoimmune reactions. Regarding Shin’s reported severe allergic reactions, brain fog, and memory problems, Dr. Kirk said, “These side effects are quite rare and not medically proven yet, but are mostly considered a type of autoimmune response.” He added, “If symptoms are clearly caused by the implants, removal is necessary.” To prevent complications like those experienced by Shin, it is crucial to have the surgery performed by an experienced specialist. It is also important to verify that implants are genuine and FDA-approved. Dr. Kirk advised, “Right after surgery, patients should minimize movement to help implants settle in their intended position.” He further explained, “The body forms a thin capsule around the implant; if this capsule hardens excessively, it causes capsular contracture, which may require revision surgery.” He recommended regular follow-ups after implant insertion. If any unusual symptoms appear, prompt hospital visits, examinations, and implant removal or revision surgery are necessary. |
